
Getting Your KTK Oval Press Back Up to Speed
If you’ve ever tried to swap out infrared lamps in a KTK oval press, you know the headache. It’s not just about finding a tube that’s the right length. If the fit is off by even a couple of millimeters, the lamp won’t sit right in the holder. That’s when things get messy. You get arcing, premature burnouts, and a lot of wasted downtime. We build our lamps to be true drop-in replacements. No tweaking, no forcing—they just fit, exactly how the original parts did. The electrical side of things Here’s the thing: voltage and wattage have to be spot on. If you use a lamp that doesn’t match your KTK power supply, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll either end up with ink that isn’t curing properly or you’ll put way too much stress on your transformers. Those high-wattage shortwave tubes are great because they heat up fast—which is exactly what you need when you’re running a high-speed press. But all that energy is intense. Quick tip: keep your reflectors clean. If they’re dirty, the heat bounces right back into the quartz glass. If that happens, the glass softens and the lamp dies. Simple as that. Where most lamps fail The connection point is usually where the cheap third-party lamps let you down. We spent a lot of time on the end-cap dimensions. We want the lamp to lock into your KTK holder with zero gaps. We also obsess over the tension of the contact pins. Why? Because a loose fit creates resistance. Resistance creates heat. And that heat is what burns out your holder. It’s a vicious cycle we’ve worked hard to stop. Real talk: The shop floor A perfect replacement lamp is a huge help, but it won’t fix a broken system. If you’re pushing your press to the absolute limit, the area around those lamp holders is going to get hot. Really hot. Take a second to check your cooling fans. Make sure they’re actually moving enough air to protect your wiring. Our tubes are built to take a beating in a loud, dirty industrial shop. They’re tough. But they still need stable power. If your plant is prone to voltage spikes, do yourself a favor and add a stabilizer. It’ll make your lamps last a whole lot longer.
