
Better Bulbs for Your M&R Flash
Getting the heat just right on an M&R flash is a balancing act. You need enough punch to set the ink fast, but not so much that you start scorching your shirts. We spent a lot of time figuring out how to build an infrared bulb that does exactly what the OEM lamps do—only better.
The Power Stuff
We built these tubes to hit high wattages. Why? Because you need that heat to transfer instantly. When you flip the switch, these lamps hit the target temperature in seconds. No “cold spots” on the platen, no guessing games. It’s just consistent, intense heat. One quick heads-up: because these shortwave tubes pack a punch, just double-check that your wiring and power supplies can handle the draw. You don’t want a burnout because of an old wire.
Why Quartz and Halogen?
These aren’t your average lightbulbs. We use heavy-wall quartz glass because it can take the abuse. In a print shop, these things are cycling on and off constantly. That kind of thermal shock would crack cheaper glass. Inside, we use a halogen cycle. It basically pushes the tungsten back onto the filament, which keeps the light steady and makes the bulb last a lot longer. **Pro tip:**Be careful when you’re installing them. If you touch the glass with your bare hands, the oils from your skin can create a stress point that makes the bulb pop. Give it a quick wipe with some isopropyl alcohol before you plug it in.
Swapping Them Out
We made these to be a direct fit. They slide right into your existing M&R sockets—no modifications, no headaches. We also paid extra attention to the contact points to stop any arcing at the terminals. You get the same professional results as the factory parts, but without the “factory” price tag. Just a final thing to keep in mind: since these bulbs are so efficient at generating heat, your exhaust system is going to work a bit harder. Keep an eye on your cooling fans to make sure everything stays breezy.
